Petrified Forest Chemnitz

The building of Tietz welcomes you with 291 million year old plant fossils! How did the trees turn to stone? What are the fossil finds telling us about their ecosystems? This and beyond will be told in the Museum of Natural History on the first floor.

Museum Education Service

Find biological and geological projects, workshops and self-led activities for students of all ages and adults. All our activities are developed by professional science educators and support the national curriculum. 

Insectarium
Everything is buzzing, crawling, flying and humming - start searching for the inhabitants of the insectarium.

Historical cabinet
Follow the traces of Johann Traugott Sterzel and learn about the origins of the oldest museum in town.
