Our Mineralogical Collection
The mineralogical collection contains about 20,000 pieces and is divided according to its chemical composition: namely the main collection of minerals and the comprehensive local and special collection.
The systematic collection of minerals with a high part of historical collector´s items (i.a. coll. Schreckenbach) consists of findings from prominent sites around the globe.
The local and special collection from the Saxon Erzgebirge, the Erzgebirge basin and the Saxon granulite mountains (e.g. coll. Köcher, coll. Dr. Jentsch, coll. Haase, coll. Modaleck) verify the paragenesis of historical mining areas in Saxony.
Furthermore, fundamentals of interdisciplinary basic research are given through genesis of siliceous rocks, agates and cherts.
