"Nature Journaling" at the Excavation Site (Summer Vacation Activity for Individual Visitors)

July 14, 2026 , 10:00 - 11:30

Free

Discover fossils with a pencil and sketchbook!

When you draw, you really look closely! “Nature journaling” is all about your own perspective on nature—filling sketchbooks with pictures, words, numbers, and natural materials. Try out this creative technique in a workshop with Yvonne Strunkeit!

At the excavation site, you’ll explore which fossils have been discovered in Chemnitz. Or would you like to know what tools are used for this? What do the colors of the soil layers tell us about the Petrified Forest? Or how are plant impressions formed? You decide for yourself—fold and design your own little journal!

Duration: about 1.5 hours

For creative minds ages 10 to 14; maximum of 10 participants.

Cost: The event is free of charge.

Location: “Window into Earth’s History,” Glockenstraße 16

Contact person: Julia Hornickel (by appointment only: 0371 / 488-4557 or hornickel@naturkunde-chemnitz.de).

The event is co-financed by the European Union as part of the ESF Plus project "Window into the Earth's History" (application number: 100731465). This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament.
