Determining minerals - a (black) art?
The reliable identification of minerals is not only of great importance for collectors and museums, but also in industry and science. The lecture spans an arc from the history of mineralogy and the concept of minerals to modern analytical methods. Examples from the practice of a mineralogical laboratory will be used to demonstrate the capabilities and limitations of the most important methods.
